The standard corrective action for excessive salts/carbonates in source water for pesticide application is addition of diammonium sulfate (AMS). Traditionally pesticide labels suggest a 2% solution or about 17 lbs of AMS per 100 gallons of solution. However, Purdue University has provided a more precise means to add AMS for corrective action. Have your water quality tested. Use the results to apply the formula within the Purdue University publication, The Influence of Spray Water Quality on Herbicide linked below.
For those within North Carolina, testing of pesticide source water is available from the NCDA&CS Agronomic Division's Solution Lab for $5 per sample. Samples from other states will be assed a fee o $25. More information and submission forms are updated at the NCDA & CS website.
